Encaustic (purified natural beeswax and Damar resin) medium with pigments.

This abstract encaustic painting, measuring 12" x 18", is rendered on a sturdy spruce/pine/fir panel and represents the stratification of the earth. Near where I live in Southwest Virginia, a new freeway onramp was being built. The stratification of the earth that was revealed by the construction was the inspiration for this work.
